Edgewater by Del Webb

This project catalogs wildlife, plants, and landscapes that I have photographed within Edgewater, classified by month and year. So far, through my photography, I have documented nearly 700 observations in the area which has led to the identification of 109 different species, mainly birds. While most of the species I have noted are common to Edgewater, there are several that are one-offs that were perhaps resting before continuing to a destination or an infrequent visitor.

Community Overview

Edgewater by Del Webb is located in Elgin, Illinois north of Bowes Road and west of Randall Road, approximately 300 acres large. Edgewater is a gated 55+ residential community built by Pulte Homes in the mid to late 2000's. It features 1040 homes with many natural areas and miles of walking and biking trails that wind throughout the community.

Connect With Nature

If you are interested in having more of a connection to nature, you can visit two sites where I upload my observations and pictures.

eBird gathers bird sighting information in the form of checklists of birds, powering new data-driven approaches to science, conservation, and education. They also develop tools that make birding more rewarding such as seeing real-time maps of species distribution and sending out alerts that let you know when species have been seen. eBird is among the world’s largest biodiversity-related science projects, with more than 100 million bird sightings contributed annually by people around the world. A collaborative enterprise with hundreds of partner organizations, thousands of regional experts, and hundreds of thousands of users, eBird is managed by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

iNaturalist helps people identify the plants and animals around you. You can connect with a community of over a million scientists and naturalists who can help you learn more about nature. What’s more, by recording and sharing your observations, you’ll create research quality data for scientists working to better understand and protect nature. iNaturalist is a joint initiative by the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society.
